Position Summary

This position is for an RF Principal Systems Engineer in the Mobile Solutions Business Unit (MSB) Division in Skyworks Newbury Park, CA or Irvine, CA or Cedar Rapids, IA design centers.
The successful candidate will possess an excellent understanding of Cellular Systems (3GPP/NR/LTE-AProSE/WCDMA/GSM/EDGE), with a focus on Automotive cellular and connectivity radio architectures/implementations/designs (3GPP/C-V2X and Automotive Wireless Connectivity), excellent leadership/customer skills, be a driven & committed team player, and have excellent communication skills.
Our Systems Engineers are responsible for driving our long-term architectural roadmap by setting device specifications, validation requirements, and driving our customers towards our vision of the future while also taking their feedback into account when shaping our strategy.

The RF System Specialist position s core focus will be to drive our understanding of emerging requirements both in the standards and from customers, and to formulate and specify optimal target solutions in architecture/design/control in order to address cost/performance/size trade-offs.
The successful candidate will serve as a key technical specialist in the area of optimal front-end performance/operation/specification for our BU. This is a highly visible position reporting to the Director of Systems Engineering.
There is a strong customer facing component of the position & it also involves working closely with Marketing, and Design.

Job Description

The work will include but not be limited to the following:
o Driving our Long-term Architecture/Technology roadmap
o Evangelizing our roadmap to customers and incorporating their feedback into our roadmap
o Creation of detailed specifications for our Power Amplifiers/FEMs/Diversity Rx/Antenna Tuning & the accompanying validation requirements including full 3GPP compliance:
o 5G/NR modulations/requirements/emissions/timing/use cases and advanced multi-antenna transmission technologies, UL-MIMO, 2Tx Coherent transmission, EN-DC coexistence solutions and coexistence management of 4G+5G use cases, as well as 5G stand-alone
o Automotive-specific aspects of 5G and LTE technologies, focus on C-V2X, including sidelink, use cases, DSDA/DSDS/DR-DSDS technologies, optimal integration of public safety and market requirement support
o LTE-Advanced features such as Carrier Aggregation (both DL and UL) across band combinations both inter-band (harmonically and non-harmonically related LB/HB combinations) and intra-band (contiguous and non-contiguous component carriers)
o Radio co-existence/interference requirements (noise, harmonics, isolation/attenuation) across UE coexistence spurious emissions, Network Signaling requirements, and simultaneous WiFi/GPS/Non-cellular radio operation.
o Cross-Mod, Triple-beat, Reciprocal mix, IMD2 and IMD3 Rx interference mechanisms
o Front-end IMD2 and IMD3 linearity requirements for all passive and active components
o Power Amplifier Output Intermodulation requirements
o Output power & power control accuracy
o GSM/EDGE ramping/spurious emissions & multi-slot requirements / TDD timing and control
o TRP/TIS requirements
o Duplexer performance vs. Power Amplifier and Rx Sensitivity performance trade-offs
o Port and band isolation requirements
o Specification of worst-case waveforms for measurements/simulation/validation
o System Level simulations and architecture/optimization studies in areas such as Envelope Tracking, Multi-Mode PAs, Tunable front-end components and impedance tuning, and highly integrated FEMs
o Responsibility in the creation and maintenance of product data sheets
o Serving as a Technical Customer Interface during product definition

Job Requirements

BSEE with 12 years experience or MSEE with 10 years experience or PhD with 6 years in RF Systems.

Excellent communications and leadership skills, a passion to win/contribute, ability to work in and thrive in a team environment.

Detailed knowledge of all Cellular modulations & standards and how they impact our FEMs. Good understanding of Radio architectures and how they impact front-end system and component requirements. #LI-DB1
